Since the end of 2015, Capital Azul Foundation have been working with the Maitencillo Artisanal Fishers Union in the establishment and implementation of a TURF-Reserve in the Territorial User Rights for Fisheries (TURF or AMERB, as abbreviated in Spanish), named Maitencillo V. Within an area of 108 hectares of TURF, the Maitencillo TURF-Reserve covers an area of 15 hectares, and is located very close to the Maitencillo cove, on La Caleta beach. This TURF-Reserve was inaugurated in November 2022 to encourage the participation of the towns of the commune of Puchuncaví to take care of this voluntary protection zone.

2015
En diciembre de 2015 se firmó el Convenio de Colaboración con el Sindicato de Trabajadores Independientes Pescadores Artesanales y Fileteadores de Maitencillo para el establecimiento del Refugio Marino de Maitencillo.
2022
El 24 de noviembre de 2022 se realizó la inauguración oficial de esta zona voluntaria de protección de 15 hectáreas, con la participación de niñas y niños de la Escuela de Maitencillo para generar conciencia sobre la biodiversidad marina. Al evento también se sumaron diversas organizaciones y actores locales en un conversatorio que buscó abrir espacios de colaboración en torno al Refugio Marino.
2023
A fines de noviembre de 2023 se realizó el festejo por el primer aniversario del Refugio Marino de Maitencillo. Al evento asistió un grupo de octavo básico del Colegio Maitencillo, quienes inauguraron el Sendero Intermareal co-creado entre Fundación Capital Azul y el Sindicato de Pescadores de Maitencillo, y que contempla diversas estaciones para poner en valor la biodiversidad de la zona.
