CACHAGUA

Valparaíso Region

In September 2020, the Cachagua Artisanal Fishers Union, signed a Collaboration Agreement with Capital Azul Foundation, for Cachagua's TURF-Reserve establishment.

This non-extractive marine area occupies 10.3 hectares surface, it is located in the northern part of the Territorial User Rights for Fisheries (TURF or AMERB, as abbreviated in Spanish), called Cachagua Sector A, which is managed by this group of artisanal fishers. This TURF has a 70.3 hectares surface, so the Cachagua TURF-Reserve occupies almost 15% of its extension, a 15% of a “no take zone” for the conservation and restoration of this ecosystem, located between Las Cujas beach and Cachagua Island Natural Monument.

TIMELINE

INAUGURATION VIDEO

We want people to understand what the TURF-Reserve is for: So that our generation, our children, my granddaughter and other generations know that here exists the Chilean abalone, the sea urchin and all that.
